Jeremiah's Junk

Now that football is over, I was wondering what sporting event to get excited about.  I have found one, I now have Olympic Fever!!  Wow!!!!  Check it out in SI

Are you in charge of the turkey this year? Here's a timeline that may help, from Chow.com.

If you are using a frozen turkey, put it in the refrigerator to start defrosting NOW. Since the average 12- to 16-pound bird takes three to four full days to thaw it should have probably gone in Sunday, but if your bird's on the small side you'll be OK.

Tuesday: Check that you have all your cookware, serving pieces, utensils, etc.; make your shopping list.

Wednesday: Do your shopping today so that your produce is fresh. The cranberry sauce, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and pie can all be made ahead. Remember that the turkey will take up the oven for about three hours on Thursday.

Thursday: Roast the turkey. While it cooks, do your stovetop cooking and setup. When the bird comes out to rest, put all your premade sides back in the oven to warm up. Do the gravy last, as well as dressing a salad or heating bread if you're serving it.

The Minnesota Twins have new logos and uniforms for their new era of outdoor baseball. Pitcher Scott Baker and outfielder Denard Span were at a downtown news conference Monday to model the outfits.

Span wore a 1961-style cream-colored, red-trimmed jersey with blue “Twins” script lettering and pinstripes. That will be used on opening day at Target Field in April and Saturday home games in the 2010 season.

Baker wore a solid gray, red-trimmed jersey with blue “Minnesota” script lettering and no pinstripes. That will be the team’s new road uniform.

Both of the new uniforms also have a special logo to mark the team’s 50th season.  The Twins also slightly altered the red “Twins” script on their primary logo and home uniform.

For some reason I started singing the song for puppy surprise today.  If you forgot about it, here is a little reminder.

Check out this sweet old video about the swine flu.  Sounds like we better get a shot!

Today we were talking about dressing dogs up for Halloween.  That is one of my biggest pet peeves, I hate seeing animals dressed up.  Amanda was busy looking online for an outfit for her dog Kahlua.  I am embarassed for for that dog already.
Really?

Check out this Shot by a 9 year old!

Taylor Swift is going to host SNL!  Kanye you better watch out!
Read about it here.

This is going to be me at Oktoberfest!

Wow, what a week to be a fan of the Vikings and Twins!  First the Vikes get an amazing win against the Packers on Monday night, then the Twins get their dramatic win last night to win the American League Central Division.  I think it all has to do with the Metrodome.  It's sad that the Twins are leaving and it wants one more World Series, the only two the Twins have won happened at the Dome.

Lets do our part and cheer on our Twins!

We're Gonna Win Twins, We're Gonna Score! We're Gonna Win Twins Watch That Baseball Soar, Crack Out A Homerun Shout A Hip Horray, Cheer For The Minnesota Twins Today!

New Orleans Saints Fans Shoot A TV ... Wayne Spring's friends and family recently shot his 60-inch HD TV. He told them that if New Orleans beat the Washington Redskins on Sunday, anyone who wanted could come to his house and shoot his television. Spring says a dozen gun-toting fans showed up and blasted his flat panel following the Saints win.

Selecting the perfect Christmas tree

Decide Where to Place the Tree - Avoid placing your tree near a heat source (sunny windows, radiators, heating vents, and fireplaces). Try to keep the tree out of high traffic areas where it might be bumped or overturned, or where someone might trip on light cords. Avoid any spot that might be dangerous, such as next to a fire in the fireplace or up on a wobbly table.

Measure Twice - Before you go shopping or hunting for that "perfect tree," you'll need to decide where it will fit in your home.  Once a spot is chosen be sure to measure BOTH the ceiling height and the width of that space. Write these numbers down on a piece of paper. Also, measure your tree stand to determine the maximum diameter of the tree trunk you can use in it. Finally, measure the height of your tree stand as well as the height of your treetop decoration. Use all these measurements to determine the perfect height and width of the tree you'll select for your home.

Take a Tape Measure - Take the tape measure with you when you shop.

Choosing a Tree - Trees with shorter needles (such as Fraser or Noble Fir) are often easier to decorate than others, as they offer some space between branches for decorations as well as some stronger stems to hold heavier ornaments.

Select a Fresh Tree - How can you tell if a tree is fresh? The needles should look shiny, green, and fresh -- not dry or brown. They should not fall off when you pull on a branch.
